Life will take everything you have. And that one bit left over that you hope will be enough to live off of, it will take that too. It will feel like trying to swallow the sun*. Life does not ask—it takes. And what is heaviest is knowing that you must restrain yourself and allow it to happen. Because the day you were born, you were promised nothing more than the privilege of self-awareness, the opportunity to witness what it is like for a human to exist. And my darling girl, if you hesitate, if you clench when you must let go, you will come to know an entirely different sort of dying—one that never stops and has no ears. And that is called shame.
